Lifestyle sessions heavily feature your everyday life. Perhaps for you that’s tending to the garden, homeschooling, or a family game night. These are more unposed than a regular family / couples session and often take place at your home (but not always!). I alternate between directing the poses and hanging back to capture things unfolding organically.

I don't even know where to start when saying how wonderful Emily is … During our engagement session we had so much fun and really got to know each other. As soon as the first engagement photos came out I knew we definitely made the right decision. The pictures were incredible and she has the fastest turn around time getting you the edited images … I've gotten so many compliments and I couldn't be happier. Emily is truly a gifted photographer who loves what she does and she makes you excited about it too.

Jessica

Emily is a breath of fresh air … She is incredibly professional, a joy to be around, and an artist committed to her craft. I appreciated her hard work and eagerness to serve, her dedication to exceed my expectations, and her genuine love for people around her. I highly recommend her!!

Lindsay F.

Emily was an absolute joy to work with. Not only is she extremely flexible and talented as heck, but her prices are amazing. If you book her you WILL NOT regret it. She makes the photo taking process so easy, especially for those of us who are shy in front of the camera. She is very encouraging and posed us in the most natural ways. Book her now!!

Katie

Emily is such a sweet, organized, professional, flexible, TALENTED, and easy to work with photographer and I would recommend her to anyone. I actually don't like getting my picture taken but Emily made it so fun and easy (even when it was like 90 degrees and bugs were attacking my dress :) )! We are so happy with our pictures and have received so many compliments from friends and family. Thank you Emily! You are awesome!

Lindsay S.

I had a last-minute cancellation from the photographer that was supposed to take covert pictures of our engagement. The day before the engagement, I was sent Emily's information by a friend and we were on our way. Not only was she able to do the session with a little over 24 hours notice, but she insisted on meeting me at the venue to plan everything out the evening before. Our pictures came out UNBELIEVABLY well and we could not be happier. Emily's ideas for shots were great and I couldn't have imagined it going any better. She's extremely professional and I would HIGHLY recommend her services!

FAQS

Can I book you for a Cake Smash / Maternity / Senior / etc. session?

Yes! These sessions would mainly fall under the “Families & Portraits” category, so the same pricing would apply. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about pricing for your specific session!

Simply put, I value the time I spend with my family! I love photography and know that in some way or another it will always be part of my life, but my biggest focus is making sure my family is well cared for.

Why do you take on a limited number of sessions?

Absolutely! Some of my clients have a special place they’d like to have their session at, but others don’t have a preference. I’d begin by asking if you have an idea of the type of location you’d like (woodsy, urban, farm, etc.) and I’ll use that information to help you select the perfect location for your session!

Can you help me choose a location?

The majority of sessions take place during “Golden Hour” which is the hour or so before sunset. Exact time will change depending on the season!

What time will my session start?

It happens to the best of us, typically at the most inopportune times! I have some good tricks up my sleeve to get even the grumpiest kids to smile, but you can’t win them all. My posing prompts encourage kids to be KIDS! Think running, jumping, twirling, and hugging, instead of having to sit still for an hour and smile at a stranger. We’ll do our best, and hopefully I can get some good smiley shots for you!

What if my kids are fussy?

Yes please!! I’d love to meet your furry friends. You will either need to bring along an extra person to help watch them when they're not in photos, or have the proper setup in your vehicle to keep them comfortable! I won’t be able to wrangle a camera and a leash (I’ve tried, I’m not very good at it!), and you don’t need to be stressing about whether the pup is doing okay!

Can we bring our dog?

Virginia weather can be pretty unpredictable! I will be in communication with you if the forecast is looking rainy for your session. We all love that beautiful, glowing evening light, but overcast skies bring its own kind of magic! We can reschedule your session if you’d be more comfortable with that, or roll with the punches should we get some showers. If you're the extra adventurous type, we can brave the heavy rain and get some romantic Notebook-style portraits, or bring your rain coats and get photos of the kids splashing in puddles (pure joy!)!

What if it rains?

Yes, I require a $200 non refundable retainer to book your session. The remaining balance is due the day before your scheduled session!

Is there a retainer fee to book with you?

I do not cap your images at a certain number! The amount you receive will be dependent on several factors. How many people are involved and the cooperation of those people are two of the main ones. I will say that I take a LOT of photos, and deliver as many as possible. You can expect to receive at least 100-150 images, or probably more if everybody is really rocking and rolling! You’ll be surprised how many photos we can knock out during your session time!

Is there a limit to how many photos you’ll deliver?

(Mostly) gone are the days of cds and usbs when it comes to delivering photos. All of your images will be uploaded to a secure, private online gallery where you can download, print, and share all your favorites! You can even give others access to your gallery - either the entire thing or only access to the photos you choose. A super handy way to allow family members to get beautifully printed photos on their doorstep, no extra work required by you!

How will I receive my photos?

The link to your gorgeous online gallery will be sent to your email within 4 weeks!

What is your turnaround time?

Yes, I will include this in your online gallery, should you need it when printing your photos from a lab.

Do you give a print release?

You can print your photos directly from your online gallery! You will receive high quality prints from a professional lab directly on your doorstep. I earn a small commission when you purchase from your gallery, which helps my small business! If you’d like to print elsewhere, I recommend Mpix.com. I would encourage you to stay away from places like Walmart, Costco, Shutterfly, Walgreens, etc. because the image quality is compromised.

Where do you recommend I print my photos?

I offer a highly customizable experience because the small homesteader on two acres typically won't need as long of a session as a large farm on hundreds of acres! Through email we will discuss all the things you're hoping to achieve in your Life on the Farm session and I will create a custom quote for you.

What to expect will depend on your vision for the session, but in general you can expect that I will photograph as much of your animals and operations as possible (small homesteaders can expect all of their animals to be captured). I will photograph you working on your farm - whether that's milking your cow, weeding the garden, feeding the animals, handling the evening chores, or the myriad of other things involved in farm life. I take a documentary approach to these sessions, but I will help to guide you and offer suggestions to better maximize the end result. We'll travel around your farm to capture important areas, including landscape photos. The majority of the people photos will be candids of you working and interacting with each other, but I will also take some time to photograph your family in a handful of more traditional poses (great for 'About Us' sections on websites!).
Overall, expect to have a fun time running around the farm, making and preserving memories!
